louisiana
tuesday morning, one a.m.
lying in bed, but not sleeping
with a belly full
of a nine pound son
his cries not yet familiar

straining to hear the long, slow moan
of a southbound train
chugging alone
by the light of a crescent moon

my mind transforms
into a hot-footing vagrant
carefree and unnoticed
destination, homeland

i sit and smoke and mystify
with clackety tracks churning by
about cypress stumps
piercing brackish swamps
and dragonflies abound

about moss draping massive oaks
with luring sensuality
like lovers' tresses
longing
to be combed and admired

about ambrosial gardenia blossoms
their fragrance levitates
my aura
to celestial bliss-
